1st Birthday Card

Just a quick post today to show you a little boys 1st birthday card I made a few weekends ago.  The  digger and dump truck stamp set is by Stampin' Up.  I believe it's I Dig You and I've heard it's retired.  I didn't have access to stamp pads when I made this so I used markers to color the stamps.  I wish the wheels on the dump truck had come out more consistently, but for what I had to work with I'm pleased.  I added the yellow washi tape at the top for an added item of interest.  Do you whip up birthday cards for parties your kiddos are invited too, or do you buy something that matches whatever theme the birthday is?

Flower Birthday Card

Here's the card I made for my sister for her 20th birthday...not a teen anymore :-(  If you haven't guessed it yet my favorite stamps is the triple treat flower!  I know the ink is Baja Blue, but I don't remember if the green is Old Olive or Certainly Celery.
Then ran the background through the Cuttlebug (my first time using one) with the swiss dot folder.  It added the interest I wanted without overwhelming the flowers. I purposely didn't attach the flowers the same way, again for just a tad of interest.  I like things to have various elements of interest, but make it so you have to kind of look at it again to know what they are.  The background is my favorite open stock paper from Hobby Lobby.
Do you have a favorite stamp set?

Summer Picture Frame

My mom has sung the song you are my sunshine to M since he was a little baby.  When I saw this frame project by Echo Park using the Hello Summer line I was just sold on making it for her birthday. I  followed their pattern, but since my picture opening wasn't in the same place as theirs it's a bit different.
I purchased the frame, and the paper pack, at Hobby Lobby on sale and using a coupon.  The frame was actually a beach theme and I just covered it with the blue paper, to mimic the sky, like the example frame on Echo Park.
My sun is cut from the Paper Pups cricut cartridge and I used one of the sayings from the paper pack in place of where they had a puppy. M is constantly asking to spend time with Grandma and always comes home happy so I thought it was perfect.  Some of the elements have pop dots, and some don't, so there is a very nice mix of depth to the frame.
I also wanted to share tip with you, that my friend La-Vie shared with me, when doing a project like this.  Since all of the items that extend over the edge of the frame are stickers I kept wondering how I would keep them from sticking to say wrapping paper.  Once stuck down you sprinkle the extra bits with baby powder!  Genius I tell you!
Are you making any gifts right now?

Mom's Birthday Card

My Mom's birthday is June 24th, but with Dad's on July 4th and Faith's on July 3rd we did one large get together this year.  As the cost of cards has gotten ridiculous (the new Hallmark line is $7 - $12!) I've taken to trying to use my supplies and make my own.
Mom's favorite color is red, but I didn't have any accent paper that didn't come out looking like a red, white and blue 4th of July card.  I decided to use the color she wears most of the time...navy.

I used Bazzil cardstock for the Navy and Cream.  The stamp is Triple Treat Flower by Stampin' Up.  I also used the matching Stampin' Up punches, but gosh if I remember their names now.  The ink color is Brilliant Blue.  I really like how it came out.  It's pretty, but not over frilly if that makes any sense at all. Oh, I also did a top fold card just for something different.
I really need to find some more of the blue ribbon. I think I've used in in three projects lately.  It's actually not crafting ribbon, but was wrapped around a blanket that my friend Anita gave M when he was born.  Funny - it's my favorite ribbon and the blanket is M's favorite too.
Have you been making your cards due to the increased prices?

Scrapstuffz "Inspired by" July Challenge

Today is the big reveal for my first official Scrapstuffz design team piece.  Here is our inspiration piece.

It really took me a while to decide what I wanted to do with this since I knew right away I didn't want to go the 4th of July route.  What I ended up using was circles and the color scheme.
The first thing I did was lightly mist the paper, but I wanted to have the spotted look - not even color.  It's much easier to notice in person, but it really adds to the overall effect.  The circles are cut using the Creative Memories circle system...one of my first scrapbook purchases many years ago.
My title was cut using Cricut Craft Room and the Jasmine font.  I used a text box and decreased the letter spacing and then made a shadow to have them stand out.
I think my favorite part is that the half circle to the right of the top picture is a tab to pull out hidden journalling.  I always want to journal, but feel my poor handwriting takes away from the pages.  This was the perfect solution.
We really hope you'll come over and join us this month for the challenge, and I can't wait to see how the picture inspires you.
